Winter school “Self-government in communities: European practices and Ukrainian opportunities” (26-27.02.2024, online/offline)
On 26-27 February 2024, Poltava State Agrarian University hosted the Winter School “Self-Governance in Communities: European Practices and Ukrainian Opportunities”, organised with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine within the framework of the European Union Erasmus+ Jean Monnet project “Citizen participation and social dialogue as key factors in the development of sustainable territorial communities: EU best practices for Ukraine” / № 101085535 — SuTCom — ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEI-TCH-RSCH.
More than 150 participants joined the event: education students, teachers and staff of the PSAU, representatives of the National Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine and guests joined the online/offline event.
The purpose of the Winter School was to familiarise its participants with the experience of administrative reforms and practices of citizen participation in social dialogue in Ukraine and the EU.
The opening ceremony began with a welcoming speech by the Rector of Poltava State Agrarian University, Doctor of Economics, Professor Oleksandr HALYCH, who outlined the importance of the Winter School in the context of Ukraine’s current challenges and European integration aspirations, and stressed that continuous learning is a guarantee of success in any field, as young people are the driving force and key to the successful functioning of territorial communities due to their activity and knowledge.
The Winter School was full of diverse topics related to the stages of Ukraine’s integration into the EU, modern municipal reforms abroad, the formation of local self-government in independent Ukraine, the formation of a positive image of territorial communities, citizen participation in local affairs, the role of youth in these processes, and the history of local self-government institutions. The school participants had the opportunity to acquire valuable skills in analysis, joint development and effective decision-making at the local level.
Speakers: Anastasiia NEKRIACH, Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Project Coordinator, Doctor of Political Science, Professor, Professor of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at PSPAU, Tamara SHARAVARA, Doctor of History, Professor, Vice-Rector for Research and Prospective Development at PSPAU, Svitlana MAKARETS, PhD, Doctor of Political Science, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Oleksandr GLAZOV, Advisor to the Head of the Poltava Regional Council on Participation and Youth Issues, Deputy of the Poltava Regional Council, and Master’s students of Political Science Valeriia SKRYPCHENKO and Fedir SYDORENKO discussed the processes of creating a positive image of territorial communities and the importance of active participation of citizens in solving local problems.
The school participants gained not only knowledge, but also valuable skills in analysis, joint decision-making and making important decisions at the local level, which will make our future community stronger and more effective.
